-Born around 1823 in Bellevue
-Organized into the Nebraska Territory in 1854 and a large number of other western states lived in his home. He was in charge of looking after them as head of the territorial capital, Omaha.
-Nebraska had a lot of racial issues during/after the Great Migration when former slaves moved from the South and landed in his territory. It took a lot of adjustment for him to get used to the new additions to his population.
-Arbor Day started in Nebraska and the National Arbor Day Foundation is headquartered there. He speaks for the trees. Nebraska was once known as the Tree Planter State.
-Provided 40% of the ammunition used in WWII.
-Corn is a big deal. Farming, cows, blah blah blah.
-Nebraska came up with the idea for 911.
-The only state to have a one house legislature. Which basically means it's nonpartison. He doesn't use the party system and won't allow them to list their affiliations on the ballots when voting. Very unique.
-His state motto is "equality before the law" and I don't know the story behind it yet, but me thinks it might have something to do with the Civil War? No idea yet.
-Kool-Aid was invented in Nebraska and its his favorite soft drink.
-Um... ummm.... I'll get back to Nebraska later. Apparently there really isn't much that culturally sets it apart from other Midwestern states. All the stereotypes are boring so I'll have to rely on interesting history tidbits.
